This San Jose Juniper was donated in 2005 by Jeff Kelly and created over a period of several years by Curator Bob Hilvers and the Clark Bonsai Collection Staff and named by them “The Old Snag.” Its combination of rooted-on-rock, literati and hollow trunk styling create a look of greater antiquity than its 60+ years.+ VIEW COLLECTION
The distinctive trunk of this 100+ year old Coast Live Oak tells the story of its struggle for survival. The original artist and donor to the Clark Collection is bonsai sensei Katsumi Kinoshita from Monterey who immigrated to the US in 1955 and has been practicing the art of bonsai for over 60 years.trees.
The triple trunks of this Shimpaku Juniper seem to sway like three dancers. It was part of the Richard Brustlin Collection donated to the CBCS in 2016. While this bonsai’s original artist and exact age are unknown, Its trunks suggest that it may well be 75+ years old.
